Fun Things to Do in Winston-Salem This Fall

Fall in Winston-Salem is an enchanting time, with the leaves changing color and the air taking on a crispness. The area comes alive with harvest festivals and Halloween celebrations. And of course, there are plenty of chances to enjoy all the seasonal favorites like pumpkin spice lattes and apple pies. Needless to say, there are plenty of activities to keep you busy! If you and your partner are looking for things to do, here are some ideas:

Pumpkin Picking/Pumpkin Carving

Support local businesses and head out to a pumpkin patch to pick your own pumpkins! Once you have chosen the perfect pair, take them home and get creative with some carving. If you are feeling extra ambitious, you can even roast homemade pumpkin seeds together or try your hand at making a pumpkin pie from scratch. There are plenty of local farms for picking pumpkins in and around the Winston-Salem area.

If you don’t have time to pick your own pumpkins, or would simply prefer to do something a little different this year, look no further than RayLen Vineyard’s Hallo-Wine event. On Friday, October 28, you can join us for our annual pumpkin carving festival from 5:00-9:00pm. We will have live music by Coia and food for purchase from Salsarita’s. Pumpkins will be available for purchase when you arrive (while supplies last) and can be purchased for $10 each. We will provide all the tools you need to carve your own pumpkin on-site (also while supplies last). Even if you aren’t interested in carving a pumpkin, a pumpkin purchase is not required to stop in and enjoy the festival, music, and food! We will also be having a dog costume contest at 7:00pm that day, so dress up your pup and bring them out to be judged on one of three categories: Creativity, Best Couples Costume (you and your pet), and Most Giggle Worthy. You could even win a pup-tastic Halloween basket!

Go Apple Picking

The Yadkin Valley is home to many apple orchards, and what better way to enjoy them than by picking your own? There are several orchards in the area where you can pick apples, and many of them also offer other activities like hayrides and corn mazes. After a day of apple picking, you can come home and bake an apple pie or make some homemade applesauce. Before you head to a local farm, just be sure to double-check their website for the latest information as some require reservations.

Take a Drive Through the Countryside

One of the best things about living in Winston-Salem and the surrounding area is that beautiful countryside is all around us. Take advantage of this by taking a scenic drive with your partner! There are plenty of winding roads and mountain vistas to take in. Consider making stops at local shops and farms along the way. You can even put together a picnic with fall-themed foods to enjoy at a scenic overlook. To make it extra special, plan a fun “roadtrip playlist” with some of your favorite songs you share as a couple.

Spend an Evening Stargazing at Pilot Mountain State Park
